High-level delegation visits Coldstore Gdańsk

Coldstore Gdańsk, a subsidiary of Alda Seafood, had the honour of hosting a high-level delegation representing the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Government of the Republic of Poland, on 5 September.

The delegation included Costas Kadis, the EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Magdalena Adamowicz, a member of the European Parliament and Jacek Czerniak, Poland’s Minister of Fisheries.

The visit commenced at Coldstore Gdańsk’s facility, where CEO Maciej Kisiel presented an overview of the company’s operations, priorities, and contribution to the wider cold logistics sector.

During his presentation, Kisiel emphasised Coldstore Gdańsk’s commitment to providing high-quality, food-safe storage services for frozen fish products, while ensuring full compliance with IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) regulations. He also highlighted the company’s strong focus on long-term food security and sustainable growth, stressing the importance of collaboration between Coldstore Gdańsk and the EU and Polish authorities overseeing fisheries, customs, and food safety.

The Port of Gdańsk is a key logistics hub

The visit provided an opportunity for discussions on some of the most urgent challenges confronting the sector. Topics included the sustainability of cold storage operations, the resilience of frozen fish supply chains, and the need to balance increasing energy demands across the cold storage business chain.

After touring the Coldstore Gdańsk facility, the delegation continued their programme with a visit to the Port of Gdańsk, hosted by Alan Aleksandrowicz, the deputy president of the port. The visit included a cruise through the port’s waters and terminals, providing guests with a close-up view of current and future infrastructure developments aimed at strengthening the port’s position as a key logistics hub for frozen and perishable goods.

The visit ended on a positive note, with participants expressing their optimism about the future of Coldstore Gdańsk and the Port of Gdańsk. There was a shared belief that the region is well-positioned to adapt to the evolving needs of Europe’s seafood industry. The group also agreed that strong cooperation between the public and private sectors will be crucial to maintaining Europe’s food supply secure.
